30 September - Eggplant Curry with Rice and Papadums

I forgot to take a photo of the giant eggplant we bought. It was an eggplant the size of my head and weighed over a 1kg on its own!

It was a humungatoid! I don't know if that word really exists to describe the large-ness of this eggplant, but for the sake of this blog, it exists now.

Anyway, so yes this one eggplant made a meal that pretty much feeds 6....

But alas, it was yet another dinner all by my lonesome.... all this talent and a constant lack of bodies to share my feasts with... this is starting to have a bit sad lonely cat lady feel about it... except, I don't have any cats.... hmmmm is that worse?

Just for the record, I did mix the curry spices myself... and it's probably not authentic, but it tasted alright...
No wait, it does taste a bit more than alright. It was pretty darn tasty!

27 September - Instant Curry Laksa with Seafood Mix

Dinner for one again...

This is happening just a little bit too often for my liking...

Soooooo anyways, since it took me nearly 2 hours to get home due to heavy traffic for no particularly good reason that I could see... and nobody else was gonna be home, I abandoned my original plans to make an eggplant lasagne for something that would be ready in 10mins...

So, despite the fact that I have some amazingly awesome dumplings in the freezer, the thought of bringing out a big pot to boil water and then having to cook either rice or noodles and then having to wash up afterwards in my exhaustive state was just not that appealing so instant curry laksa and ready made seafood mix, you guys are my saviour!

Throw everything into a small pot, wait til it boils, pour into a big bowl and garnish with fresh herbs. Done. Eat.
(Herbs make everything look better don't you think?)

Verdict? Satisfied.

26 September - Mint & Chive Cheesy Omelette with Steamed Tofu in Garlic Soy Sauce

Dinner in 20mins? Yes please!!

Cook rice, ~15mins
Get herbs from garden, 1min
Chop herbs, onion, garlic, 3 mins
Grate cheese 1 mins
Crack eggs, beat and season

Microwave tofu with soy, sesame oil, garlic and chives
Cook omelette

20mins later, dinner is done.

5mins later, dinner is eaten.
Verdict? Yum.

Tofu microwaved with garlic, soy, sesame oil and chives

Gooey oozy omelette with parmesan and cheddar and onions, mint and chives.

Photo quality?

Or the lack thereof?

Yeap.... we're getting lazy with the pretty pictures and probably a bit impatient with the photographic session, mostly we just want to eat straight away!

So most of these shots are now taken with my dodgy phone camera.... it ain't the best, but it does the job.

25 September - Steamed fish with Bokchoy and Salad

So the leftover fish from the fish cakes was just wrapped and baked in the oven so that it steam cooked it...

Flavoured with soy, garlic and ginger, very traditionally chinese flavours.

Phwoar! The awesome smell that hit my nostrils when I unleashed the fish was so drool-inducing I'm glad none actually dripped onto the food! So so so sooooo good

Served with a fresh radish and wombok salad, and some bokchoy

24 September - Thai Fish Cakes

Fish cakes made from snapper and cod, with a bit of jungle curry cos we ran out of thai red curry paste.....

So what is that green veg? Broccoli rapa I think it's called, looks a little bit like broccoli, tastes kind of like mustard greens. Try some if you find it at the markets

23 September - Poached Chicken Salad

Chicken poached in soy-infused stock, with wombok, carrot, cucumber and radish salad and steamed bokchoy. (we've just recently discovered the joy of raw radishes, awesome little beauties!)

Can we get any more healthy than that?

22 September - Fine Thread Noodles with Satay Soup and Runny Egg

Now I'm not really sure how to describe these "fine thread noodles" but taste great and I'm surprised I haven't made this a regular thing over the past year of living here.... It's completely different to any noodles that you have ever come across!

Just too much food to choose from and not enough tummy space I s'pose.

Anyways, tonight's menu is a dinner para uno. Not as tragic as it sounds, got heaps done in my alone time and savoured the peace and quiet (not that the girls are loud and noisy... )

So I decided to make this find thread noodles with a satay soup and a runny boiled egg... but unfortunately, in my haste, I broke the egg and let the yolk run all over the place before I could take a photo, so oh wells...

But check out how beautiful and runny the egg was, and wonderfully creamy the yolk had made my satay-ish broth

So the embellishment of this 10min cooked dinner was an egg (of course), a handful of baby king oyster mushrooms, some pickles, parsley and another dollop of satay (home made by someone else) for good measure

ahhh.... comfort food at its best!

21 September - Salmon Salad with Rice & Beef Stock Miso

So awesome housemate did this amazing salad with tuna a while back and now we're trying to make this with salmon instead.

What shall we call this dish?
Fish salsa? Salmon with salsa?
Basically this was dice everything, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, fish, add garlic, add herbs and add dressing et voila! Delicious meal!

And at the front, miso soup made non-traditionally with beef stock instead of fish stock and it bloody tasted fantastic!

20 September - Rice with Pickles, Omelette and stirfried mixed vegies

It's one of them days... those CBFed days....

So what's here?
Some vegetarian mock meat from the temple (courtesy of mummy-dearest)
Some of that tasty omelette and some delicious stirfried zucchini, scallop, kimchi

19 September - Assam Laksa

So I was expecting to have simply rice and pickles for dindins tonight, because sometimes, when you eat as well as we do here at the House of Awesome Food, you just need a break with some simple easy dishes.... but guess what?!

Awesome housemate made this amazingly slurpylicious assam laksa instead and I'm not gonna argue with that!

18 September - Roasted Chicken Drummettes, Rocket Salad and Wombok

So, rocket salad (from Miss V's lovely garden!) The best rocket I've ever had by far.
Stirfried wombok, vegetarian stuff from the temple (from mum), honey soy roasted chicken drummettes with steamed rice.

Sorry about all these blurry pics... taken using the phone camera instead of an actual real camera.
Shameful I know, but laziness and eagerness to eat gets the better of us these days.

17 September - Dumplings with Noodles and Greens

Dumplings will be our "go-to" meal from now on because it's so easy and so darn cheap to make and so so oh soooooo good to devour!

16 September - Meatballs Surprise with Pasta and Grilled Corn and Asparagus

We love love love love MEATBALL SURPRISES!

The corn could've done with a bit more charring but we were hungry so couldn't wait any longer

In hindsight, we probably should've taken a pic with a meatball cut open right?
Hm.... welll, we didn't... oopsie!
So I just tell you anyway, it's stuffed with parmesan, mozzarella and a bit of dried fig. So yum!

15 September - Couscous Salad with Roast Pork

A night of leftovers!

Leftover couscous salad from the other night... and left over roast pork also from one night earlier this week.....

Both were still awfully delish!

14 September - Chef Legenda

Tonight is Housemates' dinner night out.

Miss L picked Chef Lagenda at St Albans.... and it ain't too shabby. Way way busier than I had expected for a humble suburban restaurant. But, other than that super busy-ness, the place was nice and the food was decent.

Roti Canai

Ikin Bilis

Assam Laksa

Roast pork and roast duck

Salt & Pepper Calamari

Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce
