Blue Grenadier, Grapefruit Salad & Berry Crumble

It's time for fish, so what have we got today?

Baked blue grenadier with mustard and dill

Served up with tomato and grapefruit herb salad and herby yogurt sauce. YUM!

And for sweets, berry crumble
And there's Wanda keeping an eye on things

You can't have crumble without icecream!
And the colour matches what Wanda is wearing too :)

Steak, Tuscan Cabbage & Tomato Salsa

So after the amazing potluck lunch on Saturday, we had so much leftovers that we just had leftovers for dinner yesterday (sorry... no point taking pics of those leftovers...)

But today, well! Today is a NEW DAY!

Steak, tomato salsa, tuscan cabbage and rice (yeah, I know, rice is a bit weird to eat with a steak but we're Asian so anything goes really)

ICN Potluck

Or what I called... "Not a housewarming" party... and even though it was my party I did make everybody bring their own food hehehe

Oh boy, what a spread we created!
My belly was aching from too too much awesomeness.

SO. MUCH. FOOD!

Prawn pate went down a treat!

Mushroom and feta quiche and bacon quiches, as yummy as they are cute to look at

Some sort of tart? And sausage rolls. Unfortunately, I didn't get to try any of these.... my belly was full. My life will not be the same, I am sad at missing out on this gorgeous looking tart.

Ahhhhh

oohhhhhs

Tomato, zucchini and onion salsa (with lack of dressing cos I got lazy....)
Strawberry, spinach, blue cheese, cranberry and candied cashew salad with balsamic dressing (I think I got every element in there)

Gorgeous platter, gorgeous salad servers for a gorgeous salad

BBQ prawn skewers marinated in herbs (coriander, parsley, dill, mint I think)

Skewered bulgogi beef. So tender!

World's best spring rolls from the World's best spring roll maker: My father :)

(not much can make a pile of spring rolls look good, I'm afraid but you all know how good these babies are!)

Melon and prociutto salad with chilli balsamic dressing
Risoni salad with sundried tomatoes and spinach

Pandan crepes, with coconut filling

Salmon vol-au-vents

The awesome spread of food and one lovely gentleman :)

Oh, we forgot to take a photo of the chicken drummettes. But here they are!

Pandan crepes with salty coconut cream sauce

Gateau Opera. So good I could feel my arteries clogging up as I was devouring it.

Here comes the CHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESE!
Oh boy, as if we could fit anything else in....
A nice spread of cheeses....

Also, a lapse in photography taker's concentration meant that we forgot to take pics of one other dish... a lovely pasta salad :(

And now, who will be hosting the next potluck?

Housemates Dinner Dates: Chillipadi Mamak Kopitiam

Another round of housemates dinner outs... This time, Malaysian on Australia Day! Yeah!

Let's start with drinks: Rosewater flavoured tea (with basil seeds), teh c peng x2, and teh tarik in the little mug...

First dish of the day, nasi lemak with beef rendang.
Verdict: coconut rice, not very coconut-y, beef rendang kinda chewy (but good flavours), pickles were average, the spicy sauce was ok, the fried boiled egg was good, but just half? Really?

Overall, it tasted fine but was a little bit disappointing, the beef rendang needs to be cooked for a lot longer.

Malaysian style curry chicken. This was magnificent. Great flavours, chicken that just about fell apart when you picked it up. Curries never look good in photos though... shame.

Hainanese chicken. This was ok... the chicken was marginally overcooked...
The soy sauce around it was delicious, but shame about the actual sauce that came with it (not pictured). I like hainanese chicken with a very gingery sauce, this came with a chilli sauce with a hint of ginger flavouring... and although it was quite nice, it just wasn't "hainanese" enough for me...

Roti canai. Hard to go wrong here. Good roti, good curry.

Assam prawns. Good.

Pork patties with Cold Udon Salad

This is fast becoming a theme don't you reckon? Cold noodles... noodle salads... soupless noodles... yeah, I personally love love love noodles. Such a versatile ingredient, and such a vast range of ways to cook them.

It's fast to cook, there's an enormous variety of them, it's easy to prepare and it tastes fantastic, so what's not to love?

Anyway, using the leftover wonton pork mix from yesterday, we turned our meal into something else altogether. Something rather quite good ('scuse the poor engrish...)

we served it with a tomato and bocconcini salad. Not quite asian but what the hey, we like noodles and we like cheese, so what?

And a soy, mirin, honey dressing for the noodles. Delicious.

Dry wontons with noodles

Because we're so knackered and hungry by the time we get home, we really couldn't be bothered with making a nice stock to go with the wontons, so we just had it soupless....

And you know what? Dry wontons and noodles ain't that bad. In fact, they were pretty good. Who needs soup anyway?

So what have we got here?
Egg noodles, steamed beans, steamed cauli and wontons.

Didn't even attempt to make a sauce for this, we really did eat it dry and it was good!

Oh yeah, we had a few scallops leftovers so we just banged one on top heheh

And this is what you do with leftover wonton mix if you haven't got any more wrappers... You just fry them up like patties and they're just as good.

Soba Salad with Scallops

I know, this is the 2nd time in a week we've had this meal, but how can you resist cold soba? And you definitely cannot resist seared scallops!

And when it's a hot day, this is the kind of simple tasty meal you want to prepare quickly.

Cold soba, seared scallops, furikake (or Japanese seasoned sprinkles), spring onions

We served it with leftover risoni salads. This was the first one, risoni with pumpkin

And cheat's version of baked carrots. I made this by microwaving the carrots for about 2mins, then finishing it off in a frypan with some oil and butter. When they were brown, I added apricot conserve mixed in a little water (rather than using honey), and also some dill.

It was all topped off with some cooked onion and dill (because I had leftover diced onions, not because I'm all fancy and stuff)

Boy did this taste fabulous! So drool-worthy!

Risoni salad #2: risoni with apples, and coriander....

And how the meal looks in its entirety.
We also had a very sad look leek in the fridge, so I cooked that up with some butter and nothing else. Not even salt. Vegies are amazing like that.

The noodles and scallops were finished off with a lemon, soy, honey, ginger, garlic dressing.
Perfection.

Here ya go, just to remind you how awesome scallops are. Check out that caramelisation, not bad eh? :Þ
