New Year Fish Jelly

No no no, this is not jelly made from fish. It is simply a fruit jelly shaped into a fish. You know, for good luck's sakes....

But anyways, we are not that talented to make something this intricate, this was a gift to my parents from my brother's in-laws...

And since we actually forgot to take photos of the lovely Chinese New Year dinner we had at home, here are some shots of new year prosperity jelly fish for you to look at.

Not as pretty as in previous years, but still kinda freaky to look at eh?

I think this year's flavour is coconut and mango...

Potato Fish Cakes with Pomegranate Salad

We decided to go a different tack with fish cakes. Rather than the thai style fish cakes, which has no potato in it, we thought we'd try a fish cake made with potatoes this time.

It turned out quite nice. We served them with a simple Summer salad.

So this is how it turned out...

Dressing for the salad was made with this Korean plum sauce.
I think it also had garlic, apple cider vinegar, olive oil... and I'm not sure what else.
But.... I could be very very wrong here (because I didn't make it :Þ)

Here's the salad, it has green beans, tomatoes, parsley, coriander, cucumber and pomegranate seeds

It just looks so darn good all thrown together on a plate

So what's in this fish cakes, you ask?
Well, leatherjackets (the fish, not the item of clothing) gently poached in milk and flaked, mashed potatoes, a variety of herbs cos we love herbs, crumbed in panko and shallow fried.

Pure awesome.

Roasted Quail with Salad

Awesome housemate made this one, and it was just was awesome as she is!

Only problem is, there really isn't a whole lot you can do to make the tiny little bird look decent in a photo...
It's kinda... disgraceful actually, legs akimbo and up in the air... Lol

So I'll only post a couple of pics but, trust me, it tasted darn good.

Prawn "Steak" for lunch & Vegetarian Lasagne for dinner

The most giantest prawns I have ever seen. These babies were on some kind of seafood steroid!

I'm not really sure what all the components are... but I'll give it a good hard go at guessing it...
Roasted beetroot & roasted baby carrots, wild rice & cauliflower salad? and a gargantuan of a prawn.

Fennel salad added to the plate

Now for dinner... using up all the leftover vegies in the fridge... LASAGNE! WHOOP WHOOOOOOP WHOOOOOOOOOP!

TADAH!

Oh she looks good. She looks yummy!

For dessert, leftover cheesecake and home made berry sauce
And no, we didn't make this one. This one is a cheat... it was store bought cheesecake :P

Black Friday Beef Fajitas

A lonesome dinner pour moi ce soir, not really sure why I'm using french when this clearly is a mexican dish... ummmm... a lonely dinner para mi esta noche? Yeah, I think that should be right... hmmm., nevermind my language, check out the food please!

Tomato and avocado salsa

Step 1: add beef to tortilla

Step 2: add salsa

Step 3: add cheese

Step 4: roll up

Step 5: take in hand and prepare to eat

I tells ya what, it is really quite difficult holding an SLR in one hand whilst trying to balance the fajita in another without any of the stuffing falling it. Quite a feat on my part

Gyoza/ Jiaozi/ Pot Stickers

Gyozas, jiaozis or pot stickers... whatever you calls them, I calls them yummy.

Because they were so flavoursome already, we just served them with plain noodles and a light satay sauce.
Delish!

So Good soy ice cream with home made berry sauce
